This wood was finally confirmed and verified as Malaysian Blackwood/Ebony.....It all looks so good I am having a hard time putting any of it on my web site!!

I have been asked some questions about workability and stability (especially of the sap wood) of this wood. Just from cutting it I was very impressed at how smooth it cut, the list of those who are building with it and how stable it is (6% to 12% MC). Can you give us a little scoop on what it is like to build with it? Maybe the Kinnaird Bros. too....I know you guys have built with it.Brian Hawkins38579.449212963

I don't have as good a picture as John but here is some MB with bubinga binding. I think this wood is really pretty and it works very nicely. Its a great choice for tonal and aesthetic reasons.

Sapwood is fine as long as the wood has time to acclimate and dry out correctly, the zircote I used had some and it posed no problems at all...

A further note on that guitar my bro pictured--it really sounds nice. One of the sweetest guitars I've ever played. He paired a redwood top w/ it, and the Blackwood / Redwood / Bubinga combo is just stunning.

Not just tooting his horn, but also recommending the wood as a great material.

Well, I am totally impressed with these guitars!! I can't wait to build with it myself. Steve and John, how do you think it would pair with a 17 year air dried bearclaw Eng. spruce top-bright sustainable tap (I have 40 or 50 sets) versus say a red spruce top. I know that the back and sides just "color" the sound but I do think it makes a difference when the right back/sides and top are matched....correct me if I am wrong. As dumb as it sounds, I tap, listen and just sort of go with what "feels" like it will work together for the sound that I want to produce.....so far (in my very limited building experience) I have either been lucky it works for me.

I think your Englemann top sounds great. It should make an excellent compliment to the MB back and sides. It would be very similar to a cocobolo back and sides paired with Englemann. Plenty of color and richness to the tone. You could make a killer fingerstyle with that combo, and it would be a good flatpick combo as well if the Englemann were braced and thicknessed correctly. I may want to try to get you to part with one of those tops as soon as I deliver this next guitar.
